A Smidge Better Quilt





A re-written version of the Smidge pattern becomes a Smidge Better! Using eight rows instead of five, with easier cutting and assembly directions makes this your new go-to quilt for children and adults alike. Dorinda has made many versions
of this quilt and wants to share tips with you. In addition, she will teach you how to handle directional fabrics, half square triangle points, and scrappy bindings. A fun and easy class you will not want to miss!

CLASS HANDOUTHERE

Cancellation policy: You must cancel more than 7 days prior to class for a refund. If you are unable to make class and you cancel within 7 days of the class, the class fee is non-refundable. If you are sick and let us know, you may transfer to another class with the same instructor. No shows will not be allowed to transfer. 


Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: Learn how to square up blocks accurately with the Stripology Ruler and make all your units nest together.
Requirements:

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

  • Villa Rosa Smidge pattern
  • Sewing machine in good working order, power cord, foot pedal, and manual
  • Quarter Inch Foot

Fabrics:

  • Eight Fat Quarters or quarter yard cuts or any combination of the two
    • When choosing fabrics, choose a variety of lights/darks/colors, and at least one directional print.
    • Don’t be afraid to have a strip of a more solid look, the quilting really shows up on that strip!
  • For backing and binding 2 yards (or ½ yard separate binding)

Notions:

  • Neutral Thread
  • Cutting mat with one side at least 24”
  • Rotary cutter with new blade
  • Rulers: 9.5” square OR 12.5” square. Long Ruler 6.5” x 24”
  • Best Press
  • Basic Sewing Supplies
  • Pen or Pencil /Paper for taking Notes

  • Enjoyshopping!
  • Please press the worst creases out of your fabrics
Instructor: Dorinda Evans
Instructor Bio: Dorinda Evans is a life-time quilter who enjoys sharing tips and techniques for improving excellence and ease in the process. She has a history that includes directing, judging, and participating in quilt shows where she has won numerous ribbons from local to international levels. Judges most often comment on her use of color, design, and innovation. During her time in the Craftsmans Guild of Mississippi, Dorinda won the Best Craftsmanship Award twice. The Curator of the MS Museum of Art placed 10 of Dorindas quilts into an exhibit at the museum. Dorinda’s work has been featured in quilting magazines, books, YouTube videos, and the American Quilt Society calendar. She has pattern tested for GE Designs and loves to simplify patterns for her students. Dorinda has taught quilting classes for quilt shops, quilting associations, and has been invited to lecture and teach guilds throughout the South.
