Create die-cut motifs and multi-dimensional fabric flowers with your embroidery machine and explore adding detail and texture using your Baby Lock Sashiko machine!
The three-dimensional flowers on this quilt are actually patches created in the embroidery hoop. Once created they are then Sashiko stitched and then applied to the quilt top with additional Sashiko stitching. Because the embroidery machine is so accurate, it can stitch perfectly smooth curves and sharply pointed corners - taking the pain out of sewing two layers of fabric together while trying to follow the pattern and keep the correct seam allowance all at the same time. The embroidery machine becomes your third hand, making this job so easy!
The multiple leaves and flowers were quickly and easily created by stacking layers of fabric on top of hooped stabilizer, stitching the outline shapes, and then cutting along the stitching. Since the stitching holds the layers together securely, they do not shift when you cut along the stitching line. The shape on the bottom will be exactly the same as the shape on the top – just like the motifs rendered from an expensive die-cutting tool!
The resulting “patches” and “die-cuts” are perfect for use with Baby Lock’s Sashiko machine techniques such as feather stitching, cross stitching, stem stitching, and flip stitching. The bird and berry embroidery designs also included in this project are further enhanced with Sashiko feather, cross and flip stitching. This CD tutorial will show you how to achieve these Sashiko and machine embroidery techniques with pictorial step-by-step instructions.
There are 20 pattern designs, 9 embroidery designs, and 16 “die-cut” template designs included with this tutorial as shown below. An embroidery machine with a 4x4 and 5x7 hoop is required. This product is a printed booklet/CD which will be mailed to you. Price shown includes continental USA shipping. An additional shipping charge will be added to international orders.
(Note - You do not have to own a Sashiko machine to create a similar version of this quilt; these motifs work with regular sewing machine stitching as well.)
